- DASS Student Assistant at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 04/10/2026Hourly Rate: $16.50 | Estimated Hours per Week: 10-20Working hours will be during office hours: Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm. Purpose of Position:To assist Disability Accommodations and Support Services (DASS) staff, students, and faculty with a variety of routine and non-routine tasks and to provide customer service to DASS constituents. The DASS Student Assistant reports to the Associate Director of Disability Accommodations and Support Services, receives day-to-day oversight and leadership from DASS Analyst, and works closely with all staff within DASS. Responsibilities & Duties:Provide quality customer service and front office support including assisting with inquiries in person, online, and on the telephone. Collection and entry of alternative testing data. Serve as a proctor for alternative testing and assist with delivering exams. Assist with alternative testing correspondence including email and phone call reminders to students and faculty. Assist with scheduling appointments for DASS Counselors and other DASS services such as Alternative Media Appointments and Notetaking Appointments. Assist Notetaking Assistant with Note Taking tasks and serves as a classroom Note Taker when needed. May assist with escorting students to class. Serve as a resource for campus and community. Assist with additional assignments from DASS staff. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Required Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Candidates must be a current CSU Channel Islands student, in good academic and behavioral standing as well as have a minimum 2.50 grade point average. Candidates must have the ability to interact with the general public and the ability to form positive working relationships while interacting with diverse student populations, as well as faculty and staff. Candidates must be trustworthy and reliable in the handling of confidential materials as required by law. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must have strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical skills. Candidates should have a strong sense of task management, the ability to perform duties with general supervision, and the ability to exercise discretion in judgment and decision-making. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and with others and be self-motivated to complete assigned tasks. Must be punctual, dependable, and responsible for all assigned tasks. Good working knowledge of PC applications and Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required. Knowledge of Campus resources is preferred. Knowledge of ABBYY Fine Reader and Kurzweil 3000 is preferred. Must be able to learn of ADA laws about the protected rights of persons with disabilities and uphold strict regulations regarding confidentiality. The Peer Advocate plays a critical role in supporting new and continuing scholars by fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that promotes belonging, engagement, and retention.Under the supervision of the DGS and Basic Needs staff, the Peer Advocate assists with daily program operations, student outreach, event coordination, marketing efforts, and resource referrals. - Fitness Group Exercise Leader at CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentEmployer: CSU Channel Islands: On Campus EmploymentExpires: 04/23/2026Student Fitness Group Exercise Leader IV Responsibilities & Duties:Fitness Group Exercise Leader IV (FGEL) is responsible for group exercise classes and /or conducts private lessons; develops and provides creative and progressive group exercise routines and programs for a variety of skill levels; routines and programs incorporate a variety of currently popular styles which could include kickboxing, hip-pop, step, muscle conditioning, yoga, Zumba or Pilates; selects appropriate music that has the correct beats and rhythm based on class; promotes correct form, alignment and aerobics dance positions; may assist with special programs, services or projects on occasion; performs other related duties as assigned. Provides support to the staff in CR, specifically assisting the CR Assistant Director of Campus Recreation-Rec Sports, Recreational Sports Assistant, Leads, Assistants, and Attendants. FGEL will perform routine and non-routine tasks including but not limited to word processing, data entry, e-mailing, preparing forms, aiding in the payroll, and accounting processes for the Department, assisting in budget preparation, tracking, sorting, and preparing reports. Will also provide customer service by assisting with program inquiries and follow-up communication. Leading in organizing and staffing of CR events, activities, leagues, or competitions. The SHFGEL will work on campus-in tandem with the other student staff to provide the necessary coverage for weekly fitness classes. Required Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Experience instructing group exercise classes independently is recommended, and at least one current group exercise certification/training from either a nationally recognized organization (ACE, AFAA, NETA, or comparable), a specialty certification/training from a nationally recognized certifying agency (YogaWorks, Peak Pilates, ZUMBA®, TRX® or comparable), or a degree in Kinesiology or a related field is required. Candidates must be a current CSU Channel Islands student, in good academic (minimum 2.0 grade point average) and behavioral standing. Candidates should have familiarity with PC computers, data processing, and presentation programs (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel). Requires good written and verbal communication skills, ability to perform duties without supervision, excellent organization skills, and the ability to work with diverse student populations, as well as faculty and staff. Must be trustworthy and reliable in the handling of confidential materials. Must possess a valid American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification. Must have reliable transportation. Additional Responsibilities and Duties:Enforces CR policies and procedures.Responsible for organization of virtual classesResponsible for set-up, take-down, and facilitation of virtual events.Responsible for evaluating and reporting on CR events, activities, leagues, and competitions.Responsible for communicating with internal and external organizations through virtual tabling, virtual RA Meetings, and word-of-mouth.Oversees all instruction for fitness classes and organizes participation requests.Teach Fitness Classes as assigned, greeting members with a smile and eye contact.Emphasize safety and proper technique.Acquire the necessary CEC’s to remain certifiedMaintain accurate records on class statistics when instructing.Select music that is non-offensive and modify selection based on member appeal.Always use positive re-enforcement and display a positive attitude at all times when interacting with members or other staff.Dress in appropriate attire for activity being performed.Assists Assistant Director of Campus Recreation- Rec Sports, Rec Sports Assistant, Student Attendants and other Student Leads in daily tasks, special projects, and in other duties as assigned. Skill Level IV: Under general or job-related specific supervision, completes highly complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge and previous experience. The work is normally within the student's course of study at the senior or graduate level and the employee may direct the work of others, consult with others, both on- and off-campus, and may be responsible for the project/assignment from conception through implementation and evaluation. Day-to-day oversight provided by Nathan Avery (Asst. Director Campus Recreation – Rec Sports) and Jett Marquez-Lawley (Coordinator Of Recreation Programs).
