- All dayCONFETTI IS LITTER - Know Before You ThrowStudent Marketing Calendar | CSU Channel Islands
SM Categories: Care & Wellness
While graduating students might be tempted to create social media-worthy photos using colorful confetti and/or glitter, we encourage you to rethink the products you're using to get those images.
Confetti cannons leave litter on campus for weeks, diminishing the university’s beauty and adding undue burden on custodial and landscaping staff. This debris is nearly impossible to cleanup and has negative impacts on the local environment such as being confused for food by wildlife, running into waterways, breaking down into microplastics, and contributing to ocean pollution.
While taking graduation photos this year, remember that confetti is litter and although it makes for some fun, celebratory images, its negative effects remain in our local environment for much longer than the time it takes to click the camera.
We know that this is a momentous occasion and encourage you to explore options for purchasing sustainable alternatives such as:
Bubbles
Flower petals
Photo Filters
Dried flowers or herbs
Whole-punched leaves
Using these alternatives enables you to capture this momentous occasion while ensuring our campus remains pristine and beautiful for all. Congratulations to all the 2024 graduates and thank you for doing your part to be good stewards of the environment.
