SM Categories: Care & Wellness
While graduating students might be tempted to create social media-worthy photos using colorful confetti and/or glitter, we encourage you to rethink the products you're using to get those images.
Confetti cannons leave litter on campus for weeks, diminishing the university’s beauty and adding undue burden on custodial and landscaping staff. This debris is nearly impossible to cleanup and has negative impacts on the local environment such as being confused for food by wildlife, running into waterways, breaking down into microplastics, and contributing to ocean pollution.
While taking graduation photos this year, remember that confetti is litter and although it makes for some fun, celebratory images, its negative effects remain in our local environment for much longer than the time it takes to click the camera.
We know that this is a momentous occasion and encourage you to explore options for purchasing sustainable alternatives such as:
Bubbles
Flower petals
Photo Filters
Dried flowers or herbs
Whole-punched leaves
Using these alternatives enables you to capture this momentous occasion while ensuring our campus remains pristine and beautiful for all. Congratulations to all the 2024 graduates and thank you for doing your part to be good stewards of the environment.

Get ready to make a difference with your reusable bags!
CSUCI Sustainability and Basic Needs are joining forces for a reusable bag collection drive. We're collecting reusable bags (cloth, mesh, paper, canvas, etc. - no plastic bags) to distribute to students through the campus food pantry and Basic Needs Farmers' Markets. By donating your extra reusable bags, you'll be reducing waste and supporting CI students in need. So, dig through your closets, cabinets, and car trunks, and bring those reusable bags to the collection bins located across campus. You can find collection bins in the Student Union, the Broome Library atrium, the Bell Tower East Commuters Longue, the Cove Bookstore, and at the Dolphin Pantry.
Let's show how small actions can have a big impact!
Join the movement and donate your reusable bags today! Together, we can create a more sustainable future while lending a helping hand to our community.
If you have any questions please contact CI's sustainability and energy director, Roxane Beigel-Coryell, roxane.bc@csuci.edu. - All daySpring Intramural Sports (Multi-Dates & Sports)Student Marketing Calendar | Varies (Rec Center, Potrero Field, North Field Softball Diamond, Santa Rosa Village Courts)
